Where to find inspiration for your next creative project

Whether you’ve had a productive lockdown finishing off those small DIY jobs you never previously had the time for, or you’ve reinvigorated your writing passion, whatever floats your creative boat it’s inevitable that a creative block will come. These blocks can last anywhere from days, to weeks, months, to years even. But don’t despair, there are some things you can do to get those creative juices flowing again.

Travel

Travel is the best way to give your creativity that jumpstart it’s been craving. And whilst there are restrictions on the countries we can travel to at the minute, hopping on a train with Grand Central Rail will provide you with all the inspiration you need. From the fellow passengers on board, the landscapes you traverse, to the destination itself,  travel gives you an unlimited source of inspiration.

Whether you take photos, or make notes, it’s important to document any ideas you have in the moment, so you don’t forget them.

Take a walk

Getting outside – no matter the weather – will help clear your head. Sometimes just taking a break from what you’re stuck with, will help you press the restart button. In fact, it’s been shown that walking helps boost creativity, whilst the fresh air will help lower your stress levels.

If possible, head outside for at least 20 minutes a day, and you’ll soon notice your creativity and productivity increase. You’ll also be amazed to see things you’ve often walked past and never noticed before.

Visit antique stores

Whether you’re looking for furniture to upcycle, inspiration for displaying your knick-knacks, or you have a story idea marinating in the back of your mind, visiting an antiques store could provide you with a treasure trove of inspiration.

Antique stores contain untold unique items that are sure to spark your imagination. And don’t forget to visit regularly, as they replenish their stock often.

People-watch

People watching provides an unlimited source of inspiration. From the outfits people wear, to interactions with others. Grab yourself a coffee and sit in a park or outside a café, and watch the world go by. The act of taking the time to notice who is around you will help your mind wander and create untold creativity.

Get online and find inspiration for your next creative project

If you’re more of a visual person, and you need to see something to provide you with inspiration then head to sites like Instagram and Pinterest. There are millions of users across the world who are showcasing their creativity. Search for hashtags that are similar to your next creative project, and save, like, and comment on pieces that are providing you with that much needed inspiration.
