About the architecture company
Employing an international team of more than 100 architects working in Austria (Bregenz and Vienna), Switzerland (St Gallen), France (Paris) and Germany (Munich), the company is led by Helmut Dietrich, Much Untertrifaller, Dominik Philipp and Patrick Stremler. With the support of local agencies and regional partners, the architecture firm succeded to develop many international projects. Their international presence grew a lot in the past few years, in countries such as Austria, France, Germany and Switzerland.
They created an architecture from its respective context – restrained in style with spatial sophistication and demonstrating finely nuanced materiality being always careful to use sustainable, environmentally friendly materials. They approached a large spectrum of architecture projects, from large-scale buildings and urban structures through alterations of existing buildings to single-family homes. Their creativity and inquiring mind can be remarked in all these projects.
Due to their innovative and sustainable projects, the architecture firm received many awards, including the Prix National de la Construction Bois 2017 (Sports Center Alice Milliat Lyon) and the State Award for Architecture and Sustainability 2017 (Elementary School Edlach, Dornbirn).
Mobile Kindergarten – a necessity
Building additional kindergartens have become a necessity as the population is constantly growing and there are also legal requirements to increase the care rate in childcare facilities. The city of Innsbruck is relying on the “Mobile Kindergarten” concept. Olimpic Village was chosen as a suitable temporary location for the mobile kindergarten. You may wonder what is a mobile kindergarten. Well, it’s a building that can be relocated to another part of the city at any time if required.
A single-story building, an independent three-group kindergarten
The project by Dietrich | Untertrifaller and Kaufmann Bausysteme won the competition in 2017. The single-story building, an independent three-group kindergarten, will be completely prefabricated in the factory. The dismantling of the individual room cells is just as easy as the initial construction. The layout consists of group zones, a movement space, a functional room,a dining room including a kitchen as well as several adjoining rooms. The room arrangement is flexible, enabling different floor plans. Offering direct access to the covered terraces and partially shaded outdoor play areas. The three group zones can be arranged in a cluster. The organization along an access axis allows a flexible reduction or extension of the kindergarten by adding or removing group clusters and adjoining rooms. A second floor can be easily installed using a staircase module.
Wood ensures a closed material cycle and created a balanced indoor climate
The individual modules are made of cross-laminated timber (CLT). The base plates and the wide canopy consist of insulated wooden frame elements. Wood as a material can be completely recycled and thus ensures a closed material cycle. The low total energy requirement from the extraction of raw materials to the assembly of the modules leaves a small ecological footprint. Wood not only convinces through its sustainability but also creates a balanced indoor climate. In addition to a warm and homely atmosphere, the wooden surfaces offer very uncomplicated handling for daily use. These surfaces remain largely visible and experienceable in the interior. On the outside, a curtain-type wooden lamella facade made from spruce is stretched over the entire building and unites the individual modules to form a harmonious whole.
