5 Top Tips for Decorating Your Home on a Budget

5 Top Tips for Decorating Your Home on a Budget

You might feel like the time has come to give your home a makeover. Maybe the wallpaper is peeling, or the walls could do with a fresh lick of paint, or maybe your couches need new cushions.

Whatever you want to do to inject some life back into your home, it needn’t break the bank. Here are 5 top tips for revamping your living space on a budget.

  1. Add some color to your walls

One of the easiest and simplest ways to give your home a new lease of life is to paint the walls. Are you sick of having bland, cream-colored walls? Why not opt for something bold and stand-out, perhaps a statement red wall? Or, if you’re regretting painting your bathroom such an outlandish color when you moved in, try a muted, neutral color to make it feel brighter, cleaner and airier.

You can pick up paints all colors, styles and degrees of gloss cheaply at a hardware store near you – all you need to do is find the right shade, cover all the furniture, put on some old clothing and get painting!

Before you go ahead and paint, however, it should be noted that if the wall is in bad condition (it has chips and dents in it), you should plaster the wall before painting on it. But, before you pay hundreds on hiring a plasterer to do it for you, consider whether you could do the job yourself? Everything you need to successfully plaster a wall can be bought at plasterers1stopshop.co.uk. Good luck!

  1. Declutter your home

You’ll be surprised at how different a home can feel when you get rid of junk and move some things around. This decluttering process can range from chucking out some old, chipped mugs, to throwing away that broken lamp, to replacing a whole sofa.

You can also rearrange your living space to see how you can best make use of the space; maybe your TV should be in a different corner, or your bed should be against a different wall. Get creative and even draw floor plans – the possibilities are endless, and often doesn’t cost a thing!

  1. Update your textiles

The comfort of a home rests heavily on its décor and textures. If your living room is looking a little lackluster, invest in new cushions, throws and curtains. They’ll completely refresh the look and feel of the room and won’t cost you a bomb. Plus, plump pillows and a new soft throw will make cuddling up on the sofa much cozier.

The same goes for your bedroom: if your bedroom décor is boring you, you don’t have to splash the cash, just purchase some new bedding and some curtains – perfect!

  1. Add some artwork

Adding artwork to your walls will make it look and feel like a whole new space. You can buy art cheaply online or at second-hand stores, or even frame the work of loved ones.

Mirrors are another great wall addition that will breathe life and depth into any room. You can even get creative by making a wall of small, mismatching mirrors – your own work of art!

  1. Cover the floors

It can be expensive to replace flooring, but if you don’t like yours you can cover it for cheap with a collection of rugs, and don’t be afraid to layer them either!

Alternatively, if you have wooden flooring that is a bit rustic (and not to your taste), you can paint it, just like you would a wall, to inject some color and brightness to your home. This works well for kitchen and bathroom floors, but be sure to do plenty of coats to make it look professional – and leave it to dry before walking on it!

With these 5 simple tips, your home can go from drab to fab in no time, and you won’t have made a dent in your bank!
