Outside In Minimalist Villa by i29 + Bedaux de Brouwer Architects

Architects: i29, Bedaux de Brouwer Architects
Area: 400 m2 / 4300 sqft
Year: 2020
Contractor: Van Gisbergen
Cabinet maker: Van Zon
Landscape architect: MTD

This generous villa is made for a family of four, allowing for all rooms to be horizontally connected. A sustainable and spacious home that blurs the lines between interior and exterior space. In the center of the living area, a lush green patio is placed and floor to ceiling sliding doors give open views to the surrounding garden and swimming pool. Cabinets, kitchens and furniture are custom designed and made to measure following the architectural layout. All to bring the architecture and interior design into a seamless unity.

Outside In Minimalist Villa by i29 + Bedaux de Brouwer Architects With a purist design approach and modest materials, Bedaux de Brouwer and i29 designed a villa that has a luxurious quality, without being pretentious. The biggest quality of this house is the harmonious intergration of interior and exterior to the smallest details. Large wooden surfaces are applied throughout the house to connect the different areas. Cabinets, wardrobes, walls, sliding doors, beds are made of the same wood and finish for unity and connection.

The all black brick facades hide and show its natural surroundings, and large integrated planters with greenery are integrated right at the frontside of the building. The house is built for effective use of energy, with a geothermal energy storage, a heat pump and solar collectors on the roof. The goal was to connect the inside with the outside naturally.

Paradoxically this home has many open views and transparency in the facades, yet at the same time feels private and protected by the lush green and smart arrangement in its layout. A perfect retreat to spend your time inside and outside. The sober and pure material palet brings about a relaxed atmosphere of natural luxury.

Augmented Reality in Architecture: What Can We Expect?

Augmented Reality in Architecture: What Can We Expect?

Imagine looking at the world and seeing not just what is currently there, but also what might or will be one day. Sounds like science fiction, doesn’t it? But with the newest advancements in virtual and augmented reality, what was once possible only in movies is becoming commonplace. And we’re only just starting to explore all the options!

In fact, these new types of reality environments will change everything — the way we view the world, complete projects, and access information. Industries and professions will begin relying on these technologies more and more. Some augmented reality programs, such as Autodesk Navisworks Simulate, are already used by architects all over the world.

What Is Augmented Reality?

Though you may not have heard of the term before, you’ve surely come across or even used augmented reality (AR). To put it simply, augmented reality superimposes text, pictures, or information on the world around you. That means that you still see the real world as it is, but there are new elements, ones that don’t actually exist.

Hearing that, you may be thinking that you surely haven’t seen anything like that before. But let’s take a look at a few popular examples of AR — namely, games such as Pokemon Go or Snapchat filters. Though these are fairly simple instances of AR, they still do add something to the world that isn’t actually there.

Now that you know what AR is, just imagine what could be done with more complex technology. The options are endless!

Augmented Reality vs. Virtual Reality

Augmented Reality in Architecture

Though both augmented reality and virtual reality (VR) use technology to simulate something that doesn’t exist, they are vastly different. As you’ve already seen, AR uses real-world data and environments and only superimposes information on top. To view that information, you use devices that support AR — mobile phones, laptops, or even smart glasses.

On the other hand, virtual reality hardly has anything to do with the real world — it constructs an entirely new computer-generated environment. Basically, with a VR set, you can be transported and immersed into a whole new world that doesn’t exist and never has. This technology has lately exploded in popularity in the gaming industry, where hundreds of developers now make video games for VR. But of course, VR has dozens of other uses and promises many more!

How Augmented Reality Helps Architects

Architecture is, without a doubt, one profession that can greatly benefit from everything AR has to offer. After all, just imagine how useful it would be to see what your project will look like before the construction begins. And that’s not even all you can do!

Curious about all the options that can be used by Augmented Reality in Architecture? Well, let’s take a closer look.

View 3D Models in Their Exact Locations

In the pre-AR era, architects only had their 2D plans and imagination. If they wanted to see the result, they had to wait until the building was completed. Of course, that meant they couldn’t experience their buildings in advance and predict potential issues.

With AR software, though, you can see exactly what your building design will look like in the location where it will be built. That way, you can visualize your design better, and you have far more info than otherwise.

Explore Various Possibilities and Solutions

AR will help you unleash your creativity’s full potential! Instead of settling on a single design, you can try out different ones with just a few simple commands. Make quick changes to any part of the building, and see what works best. And if your experiment doesn’t bear fruit, you can simply return to the original design in a matter of seconds.

Ultimately, there’s no risk of any kind — you’re altering a simulation, after all, not the real building. So don’t be afraid to explore as many options as you possibly can!

Allows You to Plan Out the Whole Construction Process

Most AR software doesn’t just allow you to view the completed model of the building but also watch its construction from scratch. It can show you what the construction site will look like and where the workers and the equipment will fit. Thanks to that, you and your team can plan every detail and ensure the safety of everyone involved.

Helps You With Troubleshooting

Even if you consider everything that could go wrong, your design might still have some minute issues. It’s completely natural to overlook a thing or two, but with AR, it’s also preventable. Simply input your building’s details into the software, and then begin troubleshooting. The computer is bound to find a few mistakes that you missed!

Easier Collaboration With Your Clients

Coming to an agreement with your client can be difficult — especially if you’re only using a blueprint to show them what you’ve envisioned. Many of them aren’t architecture experts, so explaining may take up too much of your time. And that time could be used for dealing with other parts of the project.

With AR technology, though, everything is quite simple. Use 3D models in real environments to show your client what you’ve imagined. If they have any objections or proposals, they can just as easily change the simulation to show you. That way, you can reach a compromise in no time at all!

What Does the Future Hold for Augmented Reality in Architecture?

As augmented reality further develops, its use in architecture will certainly grow. But that’s not all — in the future, AR and architecture may even merge.

For example, buildings may no longer be just constructions of brick and mortar. Instead, they could become information hubs, conveying all sorts of social, usability, and cultural details. This information would be available to anyone wearing AR glasses or a similar device.

Of course, architects would have to keep these new functionalities in mind when designing buildings. In fact, they would be the ones pushing the envelope, using augmented reality more than any other experts. The shift to AR is happening already, so don’t be left behind. Besides, even in its simplest forms, AR can make your job so much easier and more fun!

Understanding the Contract Approval Meeting When Building a Home

Understanding the Contract Approval Meeting When Building a Home

Going through the complexities of the home building process is often a challenge for those who do not understand every step of the process. For example, a contract acceptance meeting is often the first step towards getting your loan and building a great home. However, it requires a careful understanding of its purpose and what kind of issues you might experience during one.

The Nature of a Contract Acceptance Meeting

One of the most critical parts of the home building process is to hold a contract acceptance meeting that goes over every element of your project. Typically, you schedule one of these meetings before accepting your purchasing agreement with a building contractor, typically 30 days or so before your loan is set to be accepted. The process of this meeting is both practical and financial.

For example, you’ll sit down with both the contractors and the lenders who provide you money for the home and talk about the terms of the contract to see if it is acceptable for everybody. You’ll go line by line over the deal, examining different elements, such as the number of people working on the project, the materials needed for the job, and the work hours anticipated for the project.

Most types of contract approval meetings are more or fewer formalities – the exact details of the bid have likely been smoothed out already, and the lender is most likely on board with whatever you want. You probably already set up some contracts with the builder and need to get everything figured out and approved before building.

In a best-case scenario, you should be able to agree within a few hours or sometimes within half an hour, depending on the process you use and the lenders and the contractors you utilize. However, some issues may cause complications that may make this a more challenging situation to get right. This issue is particularly a concern if this is your first home.

Issues You May Experience

Most of the time, the process of contract acceptance for building a home usually goes smoothly and rarely results in any problems. However, there are situations in which your contract may be in jeopardy if you aren’t careful. These issues usually occur due to minor misunderstandings between you and the contractor but must be handled effectively to ensure that you don’t run into any concerns.

For example, the lender may find a discrepancy between what the contract says and what their research says is necessary for building your home. Remember – your lender will do a lot of research into this process and make sure that they are not giving you too much money for a home. That mistake would hurt both them and you, and they’d rather keep everything smooth and easy to understand.

And there are some circumstances where the contractor may not agree to the amount of money the lender suggests because they either think it is too much or believe it is too little. These types of disputes should be ironed out before the contract approval meeting, of course, but there are situations in which new issues or concerns may pop up without warning from the builder.

Lastly, you may develop new issues that hadn’t been raised yet, such as confusion between the types of materials that will be used or interest rates that you thought had been agreed on at a different pace. Don’t be afraid to make your voice heard during this meeting – though it may complicate things and slow your building process, you deserve to get a high-quality home at a reasonable price.

How To Maintain The Softness Of Carpet Fiber

How To Maintain The Softness Of Carpet Fiber

Have you ever been awestruck by the look and feel of old carpets, passed over as heirlooms over generations? The secret of those ageless carpets is largely the cleaning techniques that have been followed through the generations. Things can be maintained quite well if proper methods and techniques are followed.

Various types of fibres are used to weave a carpet. The cost, look and feel of carpet is determined by the type of fiber. The look and feel of a carpet can be maintained by knowing the type of fiber used for making the carpet. Each type of fiber needs different treatment than the other type.

The various types of fibers used to make carpets are olefin, wool, nylon and polyester.

Olefin or polypropylene is a carpet fiber type that gives a wool-like appearance.

Homes with high foot traffic should avoid carpets that are expensive and susceptible to staining. Carpets made of olefin are water-resistant, which means they do not absorb water and are ideal for those areas of the house where liquid spillage is common. Olefin fiber carpets are ideal for areas that have high moisture. Olefin fibre carpets are ideal for basements.

Wool fiber carpets are the premium type of carpets available in the market. These are organic in nature. Wool carpets can be permanently stained if a small stain is not cleaned quickly. For wool carpets to stay soft for longer periods of time, professional cleaners should be hired who use premium carpet cleaner products, keeping in mind the high quality of wool carpets.

Wool carpets can quickly become a hotbed for pests. For softer, long-lasting wool carpets, pest control should be done around the carpet area.

Nylon fibre carpets are the most sought after type of carpets because of their durability and easy maintenance. High alkaline solutions should be avoided, for they erode the softness of nylon fibers in a nylon carpet. Nylon carpets are available in many styles, adding to their popularity. Nylon carpets are highly inflammable so any fire should be avoided around it.

Polyester fiber carpets are known for softness and high luster. Avoid direct sunlight to prevent the fading of polyester fiber carpets. One should use a specific carpet and couch cleaner meant for cleaning polyester carpets. A small part of the polyester carpet should be tested with the cleaning chemical before using it for the whole carpet or you would end up ruining it. Regular vacuuming fluffs up a polyester carpet and removes debris from it that gets accumulated every day.

Knowing the carpet fiber type also means knowing what will damage it and what  not. A carpet fiber could be damaged by a certain type of chemical solution as compared to a fiber type for which the chemical is beneficial. Which chemicals are suitable for which carpet should be taken care of.

Polyester is prone to flattening under weight, which means this fiber would last longer in less foot traffic areas like bedrooms. Eco-friendly chemical cleaning solutions should be used to clean all types of carpets. They are certified as eco-friendly because of them being less reactive, therefore being mild on both environment and the carpets. The DIY solutions must be thoroughly probed before applying them to expensive and exclusive stuff like carpets.

DIY Photo Wall Ideas and Wall Hangings

DIY Photo Wall Ideas and Wall Hangings

When you buy a home, one of the best things to do is to decorate it and make it your own. Home decor is a great way to bring a room together. It can really show off your unique tastes and preferences. One of the most important places that you can decorate are the walls of your home. Without things like art, photos, and other types of wall decor, they can often look a little plain or boring.

While you can buy things at a local store, why not consider making your own wall decor? Not only can this be a fun experience, but can ensure you get a one-of-a-kind piece that no one else has. It also lets you have full control over how the decor in your rooms look.

Unfortunately, with so many options out there, knowing what to create or how to do it can be a difficult choice. With that in mind, this article is going to go over some tips for creating your own DIY photo walls and wall hangings.

Get Creative

The first step to any good photo wall or wall hanging is to not be afraid of creativity. There are endless opportunities out there, so don’t be afraid to step outside the box. For example, instead of standard hooks for your photo walls, you can use hangers, clipboards or even string small photos on lights.

In addition to the design, you can also take time to choose the right materials for creative art projects. For example, many people may use epoxy resin, wood, or even metal to create wonderfully original pieces of art to hang on the wall. Some mats, flags and other textiles can also be turned into lovely tapestries.

No matter what you decide to build, a little bit of creativity can go a long way in making your DIY art really shine. Now, this doesn’t mean you can’t use the ideas of others for inspiration, but just that you shouldn’t be afraid to take some risks that you think might pay off.

Involve the Whole Family

DIY Photo Wall Ideas and Wall Hangings

While the finished art, photo wall or wall hanging is great, the process of creating it is also part of the fun. Sure, you can do it all on your own, but involving your family can help take the experience to the next level. It can also allow for some very important quality time to be spent together.

You can have your children help pick the design, or even help with picking up supplies or materials. In some cases, depending on what is required, they could even participate in the construction of the art or hanging it up. You can also involve the family in the finished product itself. For example, you can use family photos in your unique photo wall, or even commission an artist to create a wonderful original portrait of the family to be used as a part of your gallery wall.

Find Things to Reuse

No matter what sort of DIY wall art, hanging or photo wall you create, you will likely need some supplies and materials. Buying them new might be required in some circumstances, but if not, you should consider using reused or recycled materials. This could be reclaimed wood, metal you found at a garage sale, or you could even repurpose old art into something brand new.

Also, with many people trying to live a more sustainable life and be kind to our environment, consider reusing things. Reusing old items and rejuvenating them for your art is a great way to reduce your carbon footprint. In addition to looking great and reducing waste, opting for reused or recycled items in your pieces can even save you a little bit of money.

Choose a Theme

DIY Photo Wall Ideas and Wall Hangings

You are free to decorate your walls in any way you see fit, but many people will opt to go with a specific theme. This can give a sense of uniformity to the art on the wall. Some like the abstract look of several different styles and sizes of art, but it can often look a bit too busy and disorganized for others.

Having all of the photos on your wall or the art you hang all fit in with the same theme is often easy on the eyes and can help the flow of the room. There are dozens of themes you can opt for. You can include art of a certain color, going with a single art or photography style, or even art that is all shaped the same. Your choices are endless, and what you land on will depend on your own specific tastes.

You could even get a little more unique with your wall, such as every photo having the same frame, or every frame being a different color. There is no shortage of different themes to choose from, and using one in the design of your walls can really bring a room together.

Have Your Photos Work Together

The photos and other pictures you choose to hang up are art themselves, but can also contribute to something bigger. While every photo wall technically has your photos work together, you can take things a step further to add a little something more to the wall.

This could be anything from organizing the photos in the shape of a heart, the shape of the first letter of your last name or even in a circle. Each photo is essentially like a small piece of a puzzle that will eventually produce a larger design. Of course, be sure to plan this out ahead of time. If not, you may not know how many photos you need, or how large the design should be.

We hope that this article has been able to help you come up with the best DIY photo wall ideas and wall hangings for your home. Whether you decide to string up some family photos or create a custom epoxy resin piece, DIY wall art is a great way to decorate your home.

Can you reveal the name “BST House”? What is the reason for the name, what is the associative row in the name?

BST is an abbreviation for “Binary search tree”, our client works in IT + house is located on a 1.5 ha forest plot, by associating these two facts we got this name.

Bst House by 33bY Architecture, a modern brick cladding home in the woods

Could you tell us more about the customers’ wishes in terms of style and functional solution? How did you get to know them?

We got to know our customers thanks to our past projects in Bucha. The client observed a couple of our realized objects in his neighborhood and liked it. This is a young progressive family that travels a lot. Their main wish was to get a house + a guest house with a garage in a modern style and to preserve the forest on the plot.

Bst House by 33bY Architecture

If you built the house from scratch, tell us about the architectural and planning solution. Where is the house, did the area affect the concept? You were engaged in the landscape, if yes, then tell us what it is interesting.

The plot of land for construction had the right shape, with moderate active relief and a lot of pine trees, which had to be preserved. Enter the building on the site with such a concept was not difficult, because the architecture of the house has the correct geometry. We managed to preserve all the trees and on their basis create a unique landscape park with more than 500 different plant species and more than 5000 units. We gave the main direction of the landscape, but the design and dendrology itself was done by Alex Zinevich. Many unique brought plants on the site, for example, there is an American sequoia age 80 years.

There are two houses and a pool on the site, can you tell us more?

Two two-storey houses and a swimming pool 15 meters. The first house of 350m2, it is a guest house with a terrace and barbecue area on the second floor, bedroom, open kitchen, bathroom and garage for 4 cars and 2 motorcycles. The buildings are made in hand-formed brick S.Anselmo Portofino GMC. The second main house, 450m2, large living room with fireplace and huge windows on the facade, kitchen, 2 bedrooms, study, 3 bathrooms, two areas with terraces overlooking the forest.

There is a pond on the site, tell us about its features, what is it designed for?

It is a natural pond with a waterfall. This bio-water pond is interesting because it lives its own life and cleans itself. In other words, there is no chemistry. The water pond consists of two zones, a shallow zone with plants and a zone with a waterfall, under which there is a place for rest and contemplation.

Tell us about a vegetable garden. On the site there are flowerbeds with planting and judging by the plants are not flowers. In Europe now it is fashionable even in the city to plant cucumbers, tomatoes in such beds.

Yes, that’s right! These are seedbeds. People call them French seedbeds. It is a very convenient and beautiful way to be a gardener)). They can be of any shape, but we chose a more traditional and comfortable one.

What is the most important thing for you in this project?

As usual, the most important thing is that the house was implemented and not left in the project! I am very glad that the customers and all the project participants are satisfied! This house is completely unique, there is nothing from the mass market. It has absolutely all solutions dictated by the function, there is nothing “pulled by the ears” The whole object is impregnated with manual labor, from the facade to the tracks on the site.

Smriti Curtilage Villa designed by T.K.CHU Design

Smriti Curtilage Villa designed by T.K.CHU Design

Architects: T.K. Chu & Bryant Liu

Location: Suzhou City, China

Site Area: 1090㎡

Year: 2019

Video: T.K.Chu Design

Suzhou is the cradle of Coupling Garden, whom preserves the legacy of the dual qualities of Suzhou: modernity and tradition. Embedded on a secluded retreat, enclosed by tranquil nature, equipped with a verdant backyard, the residence is a classic microcosm of Suzhou Gardens. The residence is in the proximity of a courtyard named ‘Ŏu Yuán (耦园)’ (Couple’s Retreat Garden; Ŏu Yuán) which is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000.

Smriti Curtilage Villa designed by T.K.CHU Design K. Chu nestled a serenely elegant home built around a courtyard. There is a weighty dose of contagious serenity spreading from the courtyard to the interior through the sliding glass doors, which open to a limpid pool and a Zen garden where bamboos and grasses send off refreshing aroma to the interior after a short spell of rain. Coming closer to the doors is like coming onto a threshold of a private Zen world.

Smriti Curtilage Villa designed by T.K.CHU Design

Outwardly, it is the presence of naturalistic artistry; inwardly, simplistic modernity. The subtle duality is what T.K. Chu would love to explore and invest.

The propensity for duality in China may elude Westerners, simply to put, duality is the dual juxtaposition in a pair. Different from the notion of trinity, duality is starred in the design with a singular focus: spreading the gospel of harmonies in a very Chinese manner.

Smriti Curtilage Villa designed by T.K.CHU Design Granted that the notion is a little bit indecipherable, it comes more acceptable in a form of verticality and linearity, angularity and irregularity — The marbles being finely cut, the hallway being replete with geometric expressions, the rocks and trees boasting their untrimmed appearance the duality is unified within the residence but divided by the windows.

Smriti Curtilage Villa designed by T.K.CHU Design The designer gives his explanation on the concept of his design, which is grounded on a strong form of externalisation of traditional Chinese philosophies: individuals being manifesting their humblest demeanor in an effort to show reverence to the Mother Nature and reach the oneness with the nature. That’s why the elements of nature is literally everywhere in the space.

Full-height windows connect with the outdoors scattering light in to illuminate the space.

The consistency of neutral tones flows throughout the main level. The kitchen focuses more on the elegance of the ambient conditions whereby there are fewer distractions from savouring every mouthful of cuisines with preoccupied relish.

The staircase is more like a vertical meandering sculpture leading upwards to the privacy of the dwellers.

The sculpture, Coupling, by PoLin Yang

The sculpture receives the bulk of the effort that was put into the enhancement of ‘coupling’. Created by a figurative artist, PoLin Yang, the silhouette of it stays true to the intimacy and interdependence of dual elements. T.K. Chu wants to modernise the space through the agent of indescribable abstraction principally because its sophistication and complexity is a gateway to evoking the emotions.

A whiskey bar is a fixture in the boutique hotel thereby to showcase the dwellers’ high air.

The liveliness thrives in the space so that it allows dwellers to unwind.

The design team opted to infuse the cohesiveness with the spaces throughout all levels without eroding away the charm of the basement. T.K. Chu does not want to see the basement is slavish to the main level insomuch that he led the team to build up the equity for it. Dwellers could be the king in the basement level, they will be free to do anything as they are pleased to.

4 Life Hacks to Keep Your Home Clean and Fresh

4 Life Hacks to Keep Your Home Clean and Fresh

Cleaning your house might sound easy, but with so much to do, it might be overwhelming. Where does one start when it comes time to cleaning the home? Fortunately, you can do a few things to make the process that much easier and get your home clean and fresh in no time. Here are four life hacks that will help you keep your home clean and fresh.

Baking soda in the kitchen

Baking soda has a variety of different uses in your home. While it’s used for cooking, it also has many different uses when it comes to cleaning your home and keeping things fresh. Did you know that putting baking soda in your fridge can help keep things fresh for up to 30 days? The experts at https://mymaid.co.nz/ mention that simply putting baking soda into the fridge can keep things lasting for that time period. What do you do once that period is up? If you have a garbage disposal, look to dump it down the chute. This will help to remove any bad odors coming from it. Never underestimate the power of baking soda and what it can do for your home.

Clean as you go.

Cleaning and freshening your home only becomes a problem when you’ve let things pile up for an extended period of time. While it might be annoying at first, whenever you see a mess or make one, instantly clean it up. This will only take a few minutes to do and will save you countless hours in the future. By getting into this habit, you can ensure that garbage doesn’t pile up, therefore keeping your house in tip-top shape.

Making your bed in the morning

You might ask, “How can making my bed make the rest of my home clean?” First of all, making the bed does wonders for your bedroom as it will look that much tidier. Not only that, but making the bed puts you in a productive mindset. It gets your morning routines started right away, allowing you to embrace cleaning in other areas. You’d be surprised at how much making a bed can do for you and the rest of your home.

Create a cleaning schedule.

Finally, you might want to consider creating your own cleaning schedule to let you know when it’s time to do things. If you attempt to clean your home without any sense of direction, you’ll quickly lose all interest and motivation to do so. By creating a schedule and a routine, you’re more likely to follow through with it and keep rooms like your bathrooms in good shape. It will be tough at first to get into the schedule and routine, but after a few weeks, it will become a way of life for you.

These are all great ways to keep your house nice and clean while also feeling fresh. Always tackle messes when you first see them and never allow things to build up. You’ll be amazed at what you can accomplish with a good set of rituals. How do you plan on keeping your home fresh?
